Hi, I’m Carla
Madrid-born and Miami-bred, I’m the only person in my family to speak English, which I learned more from watching Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air than I did by attending ESL classes. I knew I wanted to be a writer when I performed my first bit—staging an escape from Catholic school during recess. I got expelled. I was six. Hollywood was an unrealistic pursuit for my practical immigrant parents, so I zig-zagged. A lot.
I’ve lived multiple lives as a story producer for MTV’s Spanglish network tr3s, Ocean Drive Magazine editor, copywriter, journalist, and private flight attendant. That last one landed me in L.A. Since then, I’ve co-produced the Dave Grohl-directed documentary What Drives Us, written episodes for Grand Crew (NBC) and Acapulco (Apple), co-starred in Dexter: Original Sin (Showtime), and most recently, was a staff writer on The L Word: New York (Showtime).
In my spare time, you can find me hiking a volcano, dancing 5Rhythms, trying to spot an octopus while snorkeling, seeking proof of alien existence, or eating my way through the L.A.’s never-ending food scene (I’m also a contributing food editor for Time Out)—and I’m probably still thinking about writing.
